MACBETH
by Giuseppe Verdi, libretto by Francesco Maria Piave
based on the play by William Shakespeare
Produced by CALGARY OPERA
"Clearly at home in the world of opera, Peake treats the action in a natural way and avoids any sense of static or the overly fussy. This is a real accomplishment, since the opera rooted in the stop-and-start mode of early Verdi, can easily lend itself to a stand-and-deliver style of presentation. This is not the case here...
All these visual elements combine to create the sense of a concept, one that is well-executed and imaginative.

SENSE AND SENSIBILITY
by Kate Hamill
Produced by the ARTS CLUB THEATRE COMPANY
"Kudos to director Rachel Peake for maintaining the show’s dynamic style and pace at a high level that could easily have spun out of control. Her staging is a joy. The dinner scenes around an invisible table are especially clever, and each fluid scene change is a mini-comic drama in itself."
-Jerry Wasserman, Vancouver Sun
"Under Rachel Peake’s direction, Kate Hamill’s adaptation of Jane Austen’s Sense and Sensibility could not be prettier, more charming or more entertaining."

Music and lyrics by Wayne Kirkpatrick and Karey Kirkpatrick. Book by Karey Kirkpatrick and John O’Farrell
Produced by THEATRE UNDER THE STARS
"Director Rachel Peake and her company deliver a slickly effervescent production… Something Rotten! is the most consistently satisfying show I’ve seen this summer. Make it a hit."
— Colin Thomas
"Best of Vancouver Theatre, 2022 - Something Rotten!
...there's such vivacity in the script and there was so much skill in director Rachel Peake’s production that it all worked."
— Colin Thomas
"the joyful energy of the singers, dancers and musicians made me want to leap out of my seat and dance"
— Gillian Lockitch, Review from the House
LA CENERENTOLA
by Gioachino Rossini
Produced by VANCOUVER OPERA
"For Rossini’s take on the Cinderella story, director
Rachel Peake has created a vital, engaged staging, swiftly paced and full of comic verve and what seems authentically Italian buffoonery. Indeed, she has done her job so well that it can be difficult, while you are laughing so hard, to remember that these are killer vocal parts being sung exquisitely."
- David Gordon Duke, The Vancouver Sun
"Perfect casting, insightful yet genuinely funny direction by Rachel Peake, witty acting and above all, brilliant singing throughout added up to nearly three hours of irresistible, effervescent fun."

9 TO 5: THE MUSICAL
Music and lyrics by Dolly Parton
Book by Patricia Resnick
Produced by THE CITADEL THEATRE
"Nostalgia and real-life oomph let 9 to 5: The Musical soar on the Maclab stage.
A standout cast, deliciously extravagant costumes and a frisky, all-female band create an impressive tribute."
— Liane Faulder, The Edmonton Journal
"Peake brings passion and a sense of fun to the piece, which after all, is the best way to get a message across, don't you think?"

HIRAETH
an oddball comedy about a tiny tragedy
by Belinda Cornish with Rachel Peake
Produced by BRIGHT YOUNG THINGS THEATRE
"Peake’s production charts the odd topsy-turvy growth of a relationship that starts in comic irritation... hiraeth is a dimensional comedy, an excavation of sorts: it’s funny on the surface, and underneath it’s not. And it’s got two fine performances to take you there."
— Liz Nicholls, 12thnight.ca

THE GARNEAU BLOCK
by Belinda Cornish
Produced by THE CITADEL THEATRE
" After 18 dark traumatic isolating months and the most terrible summer ever, a play about community, about what it means to live together in a neighbourhood and pull together — and do those things here — finally opened on the Citadel mainstage Thursday night. The audience cheered, and laughed. And it felt like validation....
It’s a beautiful day in the neighbourhood. Don’t miss it."
— Liz Nicholls, 12thnight.ca

LA VOIX HUMAINE
by Francis Poulenc
Produced by VANCOUVER OPERA ASSOCIATION
"The direction under Rachel Peake was subtle and very real... the performance felt like a woman genuinely wandering her apartment in despair. Though that speaks to the simplicity and subtlety of the staging - so real that you forget it’s there. Peake managed this new form with great sensitivity, bringing the audience right into the room and making it feel real."
[Kinza Tyrell's] cool understanding of Poulenc’s style is just right. The same applies to Rachel Peake’s seemingly invisible direction: Business, action and gestures are so natural, so logical that it all feels completely real.

NOS REPAIRES - PIECE #2
by Joey Lespérance and Rachel Peake
Produced by THÉÂTRE LA SEIZIÈME
Created by five pairs of Vancouver-based artists, Nos repaires is a series of outdoor micro-performances that explore what is essential in a world where the ground is shifting beneath our feet. These intimate tableaux combine to form a mysterious and dreamlike panorama juxtaposing birth and death, goldfish and glitter, sequins and the sacred, pleasure and pain.
"We are fascinated at how close we all live to each other – we can see in each other’s windows – yet we don’t truly understand one another. Our piece is a rare opportunity to see what happens when the front door closes behind someone and they learn that to be watched can actually be freeing in a way you have never imagined."

Combining sublimely beautiful music, social commentary, deviousness and delight, Mozart's matchless Le nozze di Figaro is funny, tender and profoundly human. The beloved story of mistaken identities, lecherous masters and a couple who just want to get married is as deliciously hilarious now as it was in Mozart's time.

By Claudia Dey

THE LITTLE SWEEP
Music by BENJAMIN BRITTEN, Lyrics by ERIC CROZIER
Produced by BELFRY THEATRE and PACIFIC OPERA VICTORIA
"A hilarious good time flowed through the packed Stewart Theatre for the weekend opening of The Little Sweep/Let’s Make And Opera....perfectly executed by director Rachel Peake"
- Colin Cayer, Monday Magazine
The première collaboration between Victoria's professional opera company - Pacific Opera Victoria - and Victoria's largest professional theatre company - the Belfry Theatre. The play Let's Make an Opera portrays an adventure in collaboration, as children and adults create an opera they will perform together. The Little Sweep is the actual opera, the tale of a young sweep who gets stuck up a chimney and is rescued by plucky children who plot to keep him safe from his brutal master. Britten at his inventive best.
